Testing your Berkey® water filter system:

The Berkey® water filter systems are so powerful that they are able to remove red or any color type food coloring from water without removing the beneficial nutrients and minerals your body needs to stay atop of its game. No other water filter can duplicate the amazing performance that the Berkey® water filter systems have! The black Berkey® purification elements are dominant and powerful enough that they are able to remove red acritical food coloring from water.
This is a great and effective wat to test your Berkey® water filter system to make sure everything is ok and that it is operating on a normal and proper basis.
To do this examination, please fill the upper chamber with water and add a tablespoon of red (any color of your choice) food coloring for each gallon capacity of your Berkey® water system. Please note that different systems have different capacities and will require different amounts of food coloring. If the red food coloring is entirely removed, that means your Berkey® water filter purification system is working fine. If this is not the case, then make sure that the wing nuts on your Berkey® elements are securely tightened. After assuring that they are please redo the test to see if you get different results.
It is recommended that the red food color test to be run after your Berkey® water filter system is first assembled. Another recommendation is that you test your Berkey® water filter system every 3 to 5 months of use, before you take your Berkey® water filter system out of town/country, after your Berkey® water filter system has been in storage for a long period of time.

Maintaining your Berkey® water filter system is essential. Your Berkey® water filter system is designed to provided you and your family a lifetime support of purified, fresh, clean, nutritious water. Deposits and contaminants can and will have effects on your Berkey® water filter system unit. It is necessary to clean and maintain on a regular basis so your unit will keep on providing you and your family with the best, freshest, nutritious water. The containers are made of high quality stainless steel, making it easy and efficient to clean and maintain.

Cleaning your Berkey® water filter system:

Cleaning your Berkey® water filter system is easy to do. You can place your system inside a dishwasher or clean it by washing the container by hand using luke warm water and some dishwashing soap. It is important to remove all spigots, filters, and anything that is still attached to the Berkey® water filter stainless steel container. If the water you use contains toxic and adverse contaminants, it is advised to add about 14-18 drops of bleach to each gallon of water being used for cleaning your Berkey® water filter system. Please be advised that it will vary upon the number of gallons of water you will be using. After cleaning your Berkey® water filter system. After the cleaning of your Berkey® water filter system it is best advised to let your stainless steel container air dry in the open. After the stainless steel container is dry you can reassemble your Berkey® water filter system unit and continue using it like before.
